The guiding spirits of the trust have been the Late Mr. H.K. Sharma; Retd. Addl. Industrial Advisor, D.G.T.D., Government of India and Late Mrs. Mohini Sharma who along with Late Mr. G.C. Choudhry of Bajaj Auto Ltd. were the founders of the trust. 

The Leaders
The activities of RAHAT are led by Dr. Sujatha D. Sharma, Chairperson and Dr. Avdesh Sharma, Managing Trustee - both distinguished and well-known personalities in the field of mental health.

Dr. Sujatha D. Sharma, M. Phil. (Gold medallist), & Ph.D. (Clinical Psychology from NIMHANS, Bangalore), is a practicing clinical psychologist for about 30 years. She was the Consultant Neuropsychologist to Indo-U.S. Cross-National Study on Dementia Epidemiology under the aegis of National Institute of Aging, U.S.A., and Consultant to UNICEF, India, and NIPCCD, Delhi, for producing a Training Module on ‘Counselling Services for Child Survivors of Trafficking’. She was a part of the technical expert team and also edited the training manual on ‘Enhancing Skills for Adolescent Parenting’ for NIPCCD, Delhi.  She has been a weekly guest columnist of a national newspaper Hindustan Times (H.T. City) for about three years in the columns ‘Behaviour’ (Mental Health) and ‘Relationships’. She was also a columnist for lifestyle magazine ‘Wedding Affair’ writing on premarital and marital counselling. She has been the content developer and a part of the production team of several television series on mental health. She has co-authored two books on Stress, ‘Distress to De- Stress’ and ‘Alvida Tanav’ and recently another entitled ‘Couples in Harmony: Nine keys to Enriching Relationships’. She has decades of experience in conducting workshops on Stress Management, Substance Abuse, Positive Parenting, Childhood Disorders etc. for many organizations and schools. She also conducts workshops on Counselling Skills & Techniques, Child & Adolescent Counselling, Addiction Counselling, Trauma Counselling, for student trainees at the National Institute of Public Cooperation & Child Development, Jamia Millia Islamia, and National Institute of Social Defence and for many other GOs & NGOs. She is also one of the Founder Directors of www.mindspecialists.com - a web based mental health services portal.

Dr. Avdesh Sharma
, a Consultant Well-being Psychiatrist and a founding member of RAHAT, brings to the table over 35 years of clinical experience and nearly 30 years of experience in working with media to promote public health issues. He has been at the helm of many long running television programs on physical and mental health issues in Hindi, English and Punjabi including  Doordarshan’s 78 part series entitled ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the longest run non-fiction mental health series in the world in studio discussion format. He has also been involved in the production of a variety of printed information- pamphlets, brochures, articles etc. to generate awareness on health issues. A recipient of several awards in the health space in the course of his illustrious career, Dr. Sharma has given over a thousand lectures on mental and emotional well-being, media and mental health, spirituality and psycho-social issues through the years. He is also the International Lead on ‘Public Education’ for World Psychiatric Association. Together with Dr. Sujatha Sharma, he has co-authored two books on Stress, ‘Distress to De- Stress’ and ‘Alvida Tanav’ and recently another entitled ‘Couples in Harmony: Nine keys to Enriching Relationships’.

Project Team

Garima Dawer, the Project Co-ordinator for MindParivartan holds a Masters in Human Rights and Diplomas in Journalism and in Conflict Transformation from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi. She has nearly seven years of work experience spanning research and communications in the development sector. She was the Assistant Director for Mann Ki Baat, a television series on mental health and has worked in the fields of mental health, education and urban poverty reduction. She has internship and consultancy experience of working with several NGOs and is committed to the cause of spreading awareness on issues of mental health in an effort to alleviate human distress and promote well-being.

Manasi Sharma, consultant for MindParivartan is a trustee of RAHAT and has obtained her Masters in Mental Health Studies from King’s College, London. She has worked in various research capacities in the field of mental health, including an internship at the World Health Organisation at Geneva and subsequently at the University of Exeter, UK, the Human Rights Law Network, Delhi and in the Public Health Foundation of India. Since 2013, she has been a Doctoral student in Public Health at the Harvard University where she is currently based.

Siddharth Singhania is pursuing his undergraduate studies in Psychology and Social Behaviour at the University of California, Irvine, USA and is associated with MindParivartan as a summer intern.
